God
often chooses those who seem least likely, least qualified or least
capable to accomplish His purposes, so that those who are watching
could never say anything other than Only God could have done that.
That has certainly been the case with The Lighthouse at Austin
Homes.
The Lighthouse is a full-time ministry that operates five days per
week on-site at the Austin Homes Housing Development. Founded in
March 2001, The Lighthouse is a shining example of how God uses
Christians to meet the practical needs of people in their
communities. Staff and volunteers from various Knoxville-area
churches have daily opportunities to serve the residents of Austin
Homes.
Programs include prayer, men's and ladies weekly Bible study,
tutoring for elementary school age children, children's summer
program, field trips, seasonal events and
emergency food
pantry.

The mission of The Lighthouse ministry team is to build long-term,
loving
relationships with a community that often feels hopeless or
neglected. A
combination of relationship building and long-term investment breaks
down barriers and opens the door to introducing people to a
life-changing relationship with Jesus Christ. Accepting Christ
settles their eternity; however, salvation is only the first step
toward emotional and physical health. Believers must be nurtured and discipled in order to grow spiritually. The relational discipleship
process, combined with time and much prayer, empowers people in
their journey toward life transformation and growth.
